Seasonal Forestry Technician:
Completing post harvest and inventory update cruises.
The timely collection of permanent growth plot data. May provide recommendations for future management and stand exams.
Provide assistance in field data collection projects, including basic tree measurements, tree and shrub species identification, downed wood measurements, crown closure measurements, and insect and disease identification.
Technical field experience required including compass & map reading, use of relascope and forestry field equipment.

FORESTRY TECHNICIANS POSITION
W. M. Beaty & Associates, Inc. is seeking applicants to fill positions for
the upcoming 2009 field season. Successful applicants will become part of
seasonal field crews for one of Northern California's longest standing
forest management and consulting firms. W. M. Beaty & Associates, Inc.,
based in Redding California, manages 290,000 acres of Forest Stewardship
Council (FSC) certified private forestland in Northeastern California for
long-term clients and provides consulting services to other forestland
owners and managers.
RESPONSIBILITIES: Technicians will be trained and gain valuable experience in the technical aspects of timber sale preparation, timber sale harvest inspection, and/or timber cruising under the supervision of a Registered Professional Forester. Technicians will work a minimum of 40 hours per week. The term of employment is from approximately May 1 to November 30. Accommodations will be made for those applicants returning to school. All necessary equipment and transportation are provided. Most positions are based out of Burney or Susanville.
QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants should be familiar with northern California tree species and basic mensuration and silvicultural techniques. Applicants should be skilled in map reading and compass use. Experience working in the woods and the use of various forestry tools is a plus. A high degree of self-motivation is desired.
SALARY: Salary ranges from $10.50 to $16.00 per hour depending on experience. Housing may be available.
